After a summer on the AMS Swan I decided that taking mines out was the wrong end of the business so I went to the Reserve Summer Class at Yorktown, 1953. I served at Hawthorne, NV, 1954, and Yokosuka, 1955-56. I taught school at Hawthorne and was in charge of Mine Test Set repair on Azuma. Finished as MN1.

Graduated Yorktown in summer, 1954. Finally stationed at Point Loma Mine Shop (Sperry and Nereus) till June, 1957. Our departed comrade, Barry Cannon who perished in the Sea Lab 3 experiment and served with Scott Carpenter was one of my best friends and groomsman in my wedding. I became a Civil Engineer and Surveyor and am now retired in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

HELLO FELLOW MINEMAN. LET BE THE FRIST THIS YEAR TO LEAVE A NOTE. HAPPY NEWYEARS TO THOSE WHOM KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO "LAY THEM AND LEAVE THEM". but change is in the future now the ships are gettn women at sea modes and mineman find less and less in rate shore billets i really do think that in the next five or so years mn rating will be a thing of the past.
