I was in C co 79th at Wiley Barracks near Neu Ulm. I was there from Dec 1969 until June 1970. I was a 62B20/30 mechanic & only got to be there 6 months before going to Viet Nam. It was a very beautiful country, Germany. |

Bruce,
Super Job with your web-site. I was stationed in Germany at the same time frame as yourself, in Aschaffenburg. I do recall doing combined arms live fire on the ranges 12 and 80 at Grafenwohr, Was a 11B and your video of Graf in 1973 really put me back in time. The haircuts then were the norm from troops stationed in Germany

This is a photo of my father, Albert B. Blake, who served with the 79th Engineers Construction Battalion.

If you recognize my father, and knew him during WWII, I would enjoy hearing from you.
Thanks to the individuals who constructed this site. It's a wonderful tribute to the soldiers of the 79th.

From a email to the Webmaster:
I want to say that I really enjoyed your article on the the Arch Bridge posted
on the Internet. I was with the US Army in Korea in the mid 70s and used to fly
over that bridge frequently while patrolling the buffer zone. The arch bridge
and the Han T'an Gorge are very distinctive.
The reason that I am writing
is because my father (COL Fred Sherman, Jr. ret) was the commander of A company,
79th Engineers in the Korean War and worked with Patterson and Herring to build
the span and finish the bridge. He has the highest regard for these two men as
well as the rest of the company who worked on the bridge.
My father
corresponded with Lt. Patterson and Sgt Herring for several years after the war
but has since lost contact. He would like to get in touch with them again if you
still have their contact information and could send it to me.
I would be
much obliged.
Regards,
Fred Sherman III LTC, US Army Aviation

Tell your story here.
You can create links and add pictures from Flickr or another image host.
This guy was in the 79th during the Korean war.
Anyway, I just wanted to show how you can use this to tell a story. |
